Looks like the folk at GW released some of the rules for Tactical Reserves and chose our sweet baby Trygons as an example.

Check this sweetness out:

FINALLY. We CHOOSE when the bad boy comes out from the ground and now also get the tunnel bugs that come with it.

Marking this down as a BIG +1 for reigniting interest in the game.

Finally, eh? This is what trygons (and their followers) were meant to be like right from the start.

Of course, if trygons can assault from "deep strike," I wonder if this also bodes well for lictors...

I see the setting up outside of 9" of any enemy at the end of the move phase and subsequent normal acting as being the new standard for deep strikers, with only a few if any exceptions. Its basically the universal standard in AoS as well.

With having to make a 9 inch charge and the fact that you can't just lock an enemy in melee anymore, charging directly out of reserves isnt as powerful anymore as it was previously.

I'm wondering if it's going to be possible to pull off combos that allow us to run, then charge. If so, a standard tactic with the Tryon will be deepstrike 12" away, deploy a genestealer or hormagaunt unit in base contact, stacked 3" deep, then run and charge. Hive Commander on the Swarmlord will allow a similar effect.

I don't mean to nitpick, but with a 1" range on attacks, you only need to make an 8" charge.

I'm imagining putting a trygon prime and a cheap unit through a tunnel, placing the unit between the trygon and the enemy to act as cannon fodder (remember you have to shoot at the nearest target now), then charging with the trygon the following turn.

Of course, they'll probably bring "Shoot the Big Ones" back, so that this won't work. :)

Perhaps some variation of the rule for characters that allows them to be valid targets when over 10 wounds would apply to Heavy Support choices in the same fashion?

Haven't seen it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.

So GW previewed transports a few days ago and it got me thinking. Are we going to finally see a malefactor in the game? The issue with the malefactor was that it was an unholy cross between a TMC and a transport. But with all vehicles now sharing a statline with every other model on the game, that problem goes away. Maybe our close combat bugs will finally be able to ride to combat in style.

Why would it not apply to heavy support choices? Characters are characters, no matter the FOC slot.
