Well, something is going to have to charge the wraithguard to soak up that flamer overwatch. Send in a mucolid first, then some toxic hormagaunts or termagants. Also, board control and bulky screening units will push back the flamers so they can't DS and alpha strike your synapse creatures.

Wraithguard are scary for MCs, but they're now much scarier for GMCs. Wraith Knights aren't quite as bad, as there typically won't be many of them, and they're more terrified of hierodule biocannons than the hierodule is of their D weapons.

Khorne Daemonkin are off topic, but they're a game changer also. They can run MSU khorne dog units that will be scouting and on you turn one or two alongside multiple bloodthirsters, some of them with D weapons. You need screening / bubblewrap units in the game to handle that stuff, as any high value tyranid MCs on the ground will simply die to a blood thirster. Whats more, they get more free thirsters as you kill their MSU units, it's a deadly combination.

It's tough to be a tyranid now. I think until we get a new book it may be "go all flyrant or go home"...

The problem is the high toughness of the wraithbone constructs. Poisonous attacks are here the only option to counter them.

Um, unless I misread the rumors, those Distortion weapons on the Wraithguard aren't as potent as you might think. You subtract 1 from your Destroyer Weapon table roll. You'll never get the d6+6 wound result, plus there's a 1/3 chance the roll causes no harm at all. This also means you'll never have to worry about the shots ignoring cover. In this regard it's much ado about nothing.

I think you may be overstating a Mawloc's chances of survival if it hits a squad of wraithguard. It'll kill a bunch of them, but there's still a significant chance it could:

[*] scatter and miss completely... or only kill 1-2 models and appear on the table. I know we'd all like Lictor's in place ahead of time... but sometimes you got to react to un unexpected situation and gamble.

[*] When mishapping, 50% of the results are terrible. You have a 1/6 chance of total destruction, and 30% chance of getting placed outside cover in front of something like a squad of fire dragons, wraith guard, warp spiders or even dire avengers that will just shoot you dead.

So yeah... you could just go back into ongoing reserves for profit half the time... but that's only half the time.

But it can't burrow in the same turn it enters, which means if you not totally destroy the guards in one move (!) it has to stay there and if you even surive one hit, you can call yourself lucky.

This is only true for the D-Scythes, which are template weapons.

Meaning you're either getting hit with a single shot full D-Weapon that causes D3 wounds on a 2+ and deletes a model on a 6, or you're dealing with super-flamers that cause D3 wounds on a 3+, which obviously ALWAYS ignore cover.

I'm not sure what a D-Scythe's AP is. Are they AP 2?

As I see it, Tyranids have these days only one chance against Eldar:

Masses

Hords of teeth and loads of fire from Termagaunts & co.
With toxins on those who have to take down the big stuff.

Yeah, masses of poison gaunts.

Also poison gargoyles and skyblight might be a good option. Most of the D doesn't have skyfire.

And against the Wraithknight could our own colossals get in.
Heck, maybe by now my Hierophant wll maybe get some action.
If a 1000Pts model can't beat 300, what is it then good for?

Your 1000pts hierophant can still be shot dead in one shot by the 300pt wraithknight if it rolls a 6 to wound. The eldar codex makes it a sad day for all our Gargantuan Monstrous Creatures.

I was actually trying to highlight the irony in this point range.
I'm aware what d-weapons do.
And all in all would I be okay with that -IF- we would have access to any D-weapons of our own.
:x
