Please join me in remembering our long lost (although we never actually saw an official model) brother (sister?)...

The Parasite of Mortrex. One of last editions most fun bugs. Spawning rippers galore and making outflankers soil their pants.

You will always be remembered fondly by this Hive Fleet.

Pour one out for your homey.

Indeed, very sorry to see my favourite HQ choice eliminated from the codex...

I am crossing my claws they may come back in dataslates... I feel a lot of our characters and the transport spore were axed because GW didnt want to release the book with no model gaps, or that there is too many 3rd party versions that cut into the profit.

My real hope is that the Spore, Doom, Parasite and Ymgarls are released as FW kits (or upgrade kits - a new resin head and accessories, for example) alongside rules.

As it stands I'm still extremely put-off by the new book. I'm not saying it's bad competitively - I don't care much about that. It just seems to be pretty bland with the loss of those four really unique and fun units, on top of all the other concerns. I'm usually really pro-GW and even enjoyed the last book, with some exceptions, because of all the fun weird things in it. I hate coming across as part of the whiny crowd this time around.

EDIT: I don't like impotent whineposting, so after posting here I had this idea. Posted it in the rumors thread, but here it is again.

I don't want to harass anybody, but it might not hurt to politely express an interest in some Tyranid Dataslates to replace our lost characters and units on the GW Digital Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/GamesWorkshopDigitalEditions

The staff running it seem very friendly and have said many times they're receptive to hearing what fans want to see. If enough people articulate their desire to see rules for the Mycetic Spores, Doom, Parasite and Ymgarl Stealers, it might at least start a discussion within the digital team.

Similarly, Forge World has a Facebook page. It doesn't seem impossible to think that they could easily make a Mycetic Spore or resin upgrade kits to represent a Parasite, Doom or brood of Ymgarls. Along with the new models would come rules, which would allow us to play the converted models that many of us spent so much time and money on.

https://www.facebook.com/ForgeWorldUK

The key is to have lots of people do it, but have them do it in a polite and persuasive manner - especially if they include pictures of well-converted and painted models from the dropped units, since the people running the page often comment on nicely-painted minis. Just an idea - if done well it certainly won't make anything worse!

I'm going to share this on Warseer and Dakka as well. I think having Forge World and the Digital Editions page hear from even 5-10 people in the days after the Codex release would make an impact. It's all we can do at this point!

Farewell my friend....

You have served me well.

It doesn't seem to make sense that the Hive Mind would 'discontinue' a useful and effective build.
Yet still continues to produce Pyrovores....

I just bought the new codex and on reading it, apart from the loss of a few really cool characters, and the addition of a few i.e. Haruspex, Exocrine, and Crone. Its practically a cut and paste of the last codex. There may be some points and stats tweaks i havent compared. Unless your sole experience of the game is in a store or tournament i see no reason to prevent you using the rules from the previous edition.

I was really looking forward to fielding one when an official model was released. :(

Me too. I always had a Lictor ready as a proxy for friendly games but had the Parasite Model actually been released, it would've been my #1 purchase next to the codex. Sad that we can't even field it now.
