if the game is small enough, field the fex in a unit of one and it won't eat itself.

Carnies eating each other are a fairly low chance, even with three. First they have to actually fail their Ld check (which is 7 so less than 50% failure chance), then they have to roll the 1-3 result, then roll damage 2+ for each fex once and for the 2 or 3 wounds caused that way, roll a 3+ armor save each. On average each round they are out of synapse 3 carnifexes will take about 17% of a wound from cannibalistic hunger.

Just want to say I have my claws on the codex, and I'm very much enjoying absorbing it. First thing to surprise me is the options we have on so many bugs. Many I didn't expect, such as the pincer tail on the hive tyrant, and the cluster spines on the harpy.

As a whole, looking over the costings, I think they got this one mostly right. A couple of units still look over priced, but aside from rippers, nothing made me immeditely think 'No, I will never ever take that option!'

I'm thinking Rippers got a points increase to justify the removal of the cannibal rule they had in 5e. Granted, they can still get it if they roll poorly on IB and the subsequent d6, but it's not automatic once they're out of Synapse. Was that rule removal justification for a 30% cost increase? No. I am curious, though, to try them out just because. After all, they're the only troop unit we have with DS capability.

3 wounds of rippers should not cost more than 3 termagants. Who thought that was a good idea?

Possibly it was because they have stealth and can get shrouding, thus giving a +4 cover save in the open and +2 in actual cover.

Having a 4+ front live cover with a 3+ cover behind can be pretty tough.

Rippers and Venomthropes have good synergy. Maybe Rippers are the most terrible unit(ok it's pyrovore).
In old WD was read that "Size matters" what mean bigger is better. But can the smallest be usefull with bigger bugs (ripper+venomthropes)

Except that they don't have stealth. Swarms lost that rule when 6th ed came round. Poor rippers :(

Getting the codex in a few days!!

A little of what you guys have said so far has terrified me, but now it just sounds awesome!

And tbh, I don't play competitive games anyway so as long as the army is fun I'm happy

You should have a great time with the new codex Broodmaster.
The tone of it is spot on, and the army should play just how you feel Tyranids should be played. :D

Late night Derp moment.

If we put a brood of venomthropes within 6" of a FMC and they jink, does that mean they then get 3+ jink cover save?

If you donna wanna play competitive you should have fun with any codex. The actual codex gets better each time I dive into it. Even in competitive environment. Its just that the tactics are very subtle and I think Tyranids are a pretty hard to play and unforgiving army. Its not a Tau army which just stands there and point and clicks everything to death. Compared to all actual codices I think we are same strength then all the our, except tau and Eldar - those two are just out of the window!
