As the titles says.

What kind of competition do you, the average Warpshadow member, like to see?

Modelling, writing, painting, drawing?

Post away.

what about a "little critters competition"

featuring models like hormagaunts, termagaunts, gargyles, stealers.

model should have a cool pose and painted to the best possible standard.

so more a real painting challenge.

and its cheap, and you can focus on a small miniature.

Sounds like a decent idea Harald. I especially like the accessibility of it - the Swarmlord comp showed that you can't rely on getting more than a few entries for expensive creatures (in terms of money).

Having said that, I like the conversion comps as well, as we tend to get such inventive and interesting entries.

Oh, and don't forget Rippers in the 'small things' category. You could even split it in to sub-pools for Gaunts, Genestealers, Rippers, etc to help deal with an anticipated large number of entries.

I wouldn't mind continuing with the "we have no models for this" theme, encouraging us to augment our collections with more conversions. Tyranid Prime sounds like the perfect one to do next. I'd prefer not doing a diorama, though. Just the model.

I like the small 'nids concept as well. What would be better though? A single based model or an Oh-God-look-whats-coming wave of 'gaunts diarama?

What if you split the difference? What if the contest parameters were 3-5 single models on tournament dimension bases but which, when combined together create a larger scene? For example, four Genestealers each leaping over a section of wall, but when lined up one behind the other show a vignette one genestealer as it approaches and then clears the wall.

Yes, I'd also think that having a more accessible model for the next one might be an idea, it's easier to do even if you don't mean to use one in your army. Large monsters have the problem that if you don't happen to be working on one, it's less likely you'll get one just for a competition. Everyone has most of the basic troop types, or at least one of them. Tho I'll also say I like the idea of going through the list entries without available models. I haven't figured out how to do a prime yet.

Cheers

something moderately cheap to buy with lots of conversion sculpting as I just got another load of GS. But there really should be a comp in December as January means Mid terms. December has a lot of break.

How about Mycetic Spore?

I would certainly like to give that one a try, as I like to use them a fair bit..

Horde o rippers could also be fun, of course..

I like Thunderchild's idea. The Spore is a great addition to most armies, has no official model, and would be a great challenge. I would love to see the final concepts that would come out of this group.

I would like to see the Prime be for the next comp. We didn't get a lot of participation for this previous contest because it's a big model and required a diorama base, which is a lot of work. Keeping it smaller would be great and I like the theme we have so far with beasties who don't have a model.

I would like to see either the Doom or a Prime, with my preference being the Prime. It has a lot of options and can be made on the cheap, and is easily kitbashed. We've had a Swarmlord, Parasite and Tervigon competition, we might as well finish out the HQ section.

I think, as great as haralds idea is, a prime would be the best way to go. It is not a highly expensive thing to do, everyone needs one (yes, you do ;) ) and there are plenty way to make one.

IMO it might generate the most divergent stuff, without paying to much for it :)

I thought that the Malanthrope you get in Forge World was the same as the Doom of Malan'Tai.

MALANthrope
MALAN'tai

I think that a good idea would be original models. 100% from our heads. Completely designed and modeled by each one of us. This would inspire many people to further personalise their own armies, and show some nice designs.

The problem with that is that it takes valuable bits to make models that might not be able to be used for something. So people (maybe even subcontiously), will create a nid that can stand in as say a broodlord, or a prime, or a carnifex, etc. So I think in the long run it would be better to just create a coompetition featuring either primes, carnifexes or broodlords.

And no the Malanthrope is a stand-alone species. They grab corpses with their tentacles and digest the bodies in those sacs covering their torso. They're an HQ choice and have standalone rules in both Imperial Armour: Apocalypse and Imperial Armour IV.

I like your idea about the HQ's Shoggoth, makes sense to me. I'll put a poll up after some more discussion though.

My vote definitely goes to something in the Codex that doesn't have a model and hasn't been covered in a contest. Would also give me some motivation to finished some half-baked projects sitting on my desk.

Because of how useful they are in-game, I'd agree with recommendations of either Doom, Prime, or Spore.

I've had me a fun thought.

Mayhap, instead of focusing on the end result, instead have a contest based around the parts used-- "make something using a spare Hormagaunt body!"
That way, people can use as many extra bits as they like: one person may enter a carefully modified, heavily greenstuffed Hormagaunt, while another might use the body as part of the Rupture Cannon on a Tyrannofex.
