I suppose with a terminator sergeant model, the head of a Fantasy skeleton, some gothic bits, and gold paint, you could kitbash yourself the Emperor on the Golden Throne. That would seem to be an appropriate opponent.

Hive Node, I've got a question:

Does the backdrop for the battle HAVE to be something with indentations for bases to sit in? Or can it be a nicely painted piece of scenery that just works and the contenders are placed on it and posed dramatically?

The reason for this question is becuase I have just recently painted (as in spending all day yesterday) a very bright piece of scenery for a shot at the "Great Gameboard Giveaway" contest. I'd really like to use this as the backdrop for this epic duel, but I it wouldn't really be possible for me to cut two holes in it just to slide in some round bases.

Instead, I could easily paint the bases of the contenders to match the scenery they will be standing on.

For this I would probaly just have to make the scenery. I will fix up my swarmys large boneswords for this and its opponent would also be a finished mini from my collection. Is that ok for the competition that I pretty much have the minis done and at hand? Can it also be a vehicle driving at the swarmlord? I have an idea with my Ork Battlewagon running over some gaunts and swarmy steps away from its guards ready to DoG it.

Hmm...I have a model I've been semi-proxying as the Swarmy himself, so all I would have to do is finish him and find an appropriate enemy. A single Grot, perhaps? Scarab? Tau Drone? Who is worthy?

I can imagine a poor little grot standing there in front of the massive swarmlord!

I doubt I'll enter. Though how to make it seems within reach, I have no time or patience. (though it would be really cool to have some fire warriors being tossed around by the swarmlord)

@ Red Comet Tyrant:

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I had to get the opinions from other mods/admins on your question. We've come to a "Yes, but only if you can make it work as per the contest rules", specifically the rule regarding that the models have to be removable from the diorama

i.e.: They're bases must slid into some sort of indentation on the terrain.

The point of this contest is not only to make a Swarmlord mini for member to use in their games, but also to have a stunning diorama to use as a centre piece of your army, so just placing some models on top of a piece of terrain really goes against the theme.

Vonny's suggestion is that maybe you can add some hills that would be possible of cradling the models?

@Krewl:
Yes, you can use your Ork Battlewagon, and can use already existent models, just make it epic.

I have been working on a Swarmlord and a Tyrannofex. Looks like Swarmy just made it to the front of the line.

Wouldn't a swarmlord vs a grot be epic, at least from the view point of the grot. Epic challenge. Would be cool to enter, might have to see if I can scrounge up the time to work on it. :)

Cheers

I just wanted to announce that I will be entering the competition as well.

Just waiting on some Boneswords to come in, and I'll be set to start...

Well nobody has been posting progress, or PM'd me with contest entries, so I've taken that as a sign that people aren't completed.

So!

The contest will be extended. I'll update the main post when I have some time later today. Everyone keep working, and I expect to see some progress soon.

I'm glad you extended. I had given up on completing because I wasn't happy with how it was going and then I got distracted by Island of Blood. Then suddenly it was the end of the month. I have the combatant modeled and have the body complete and the swords halfway complete.
