When I pop into my local GW store, I'm usually hit by the usual "What do you play?" "Tyranids! You must want ______!" where the blank is whatever 'nid is selling slowly, guess. I kind of made a promise to myself that I wouldn't buy anything new until I had painted everything I had and, finally, GW rolled out the Mycetic Spore.

Usually the next question would be: "How many points do you have?"

My answer was always: "No idea. Thousands."

I decided I wanted to actually count up my nids, total their points, and see what I had. Of course, I couldn't just open up the boxes, drawers, army cases, and other stuff: I had to set it all up.

I have a ton of fluff I've written up on these guys and once I have them all counted up (which I'm going to as I put them away), I'll post the fluff up here, too.

Note this doesn't include my Genestealer Cult army, although a few of the units pull double-duty.

It looks just like the GW illustrations! So many 'nids that the individuals are lost in the swarm. :D

Even when 'nidzilla was all the rage, I was always a fan of the Swarm. :D

An argument for closed mouths.

So I like the roaring 'nids as much as anyone, but sometimes I like to close those mouths and see what they look like.

I've done with with a Tervagon:

And a Mawlock:

Finally, I was never too wild about the "bulldog style" Tyrant Guard, so I made my own from 3rd edition Fexes and other bits (mostly leftover shells from 4th ed fexes and warrior heads):

And my Swarmlord:

Hahahaa - the Krieg Colonel doesn't look too impressed.

And a couple markers:

Thanks for the close ups. And I really dig the markers too.

Agree! :) That is part of the reason KrewL RaiN's tervigon is my desktop background, and part of the reason I'm so fond of the termagant and hormagaunt heads/faces. I think it is easier to get a feeling of real menace from a closed mouth.

Definitely. Especially the Mawlock looks a great deal "meaner" when it's not yelling.

wow... just wow. Those are some awesome pictures.

Also - I agree on the closed mouths, and not just with tyranids. Did you ever see how hard it is to find a space marine face with a closed mouth? And that's space marines, the most widely spread and supported army around!

you did inspire me to make my next big nid with closed mouth too, though.

The closed tusks look on your Tevigon is aweeesome. I may have to steal that if I ever make a 3rd! My 4th Trigon I would probaly make closed mouth too. If I played more Apocalypse I would so want a 4th.

I love the closed mouths. Looks good on the Terv, but looks downright mean on the Mawlock. Haven't tried on a Trygon, but I imagine the effect's similar.
