Hello fellow nidlovers,

actually i´am building my Tyrannocyst´s.
In general i wanted to keep them as cheap as possible (pointwise) and just use the basic weapons.

After a game (where no pods were used) we just talked about what weapontype would be good to have on them.
And now i think that a venomcanon is not that bad ( at 25 pts ) or if you go angainst orks or imps a barbed strangler (also 25 pts) might kill some stuff.

So what are your experiences?

Go with basic loadout or invest some points in weapon upgrades?

There will be a new thread showing my work on the Tyrannocysts soon.

Harald

I heard before on other posts that all blast weapons are reather avoided.
The risk that the enemy comes close is quite high and the problem is that the scattering could then be abused to make you fire on things you don't want to. So could the nemy place a sacrificial unit near your or the tyrannocyte self, in the hope that you hit yourself more through scattered blasts than him.
Thus deathspitters seem more reliable.

While it is possible the enemy could use the blasts against you slightly with that tactic. 1) You can move the pod and make sure you are close to something you want-to a degree. 2) If they are doing this, they are devoting time, effort and units to dealing with a cheap pod and that might help you with the rest of the game overall.

I think barbed stranglers are the worst IMO (even tho normally I would say they are the best weapon by far) because they are only S4, AP5. That means if any vehicle is closest, its basically useless, same with an T6+ models or something with a 2+ save. There are too many units that fit one of those bills and makes it crap. They also can't fire at flyers.

Deathspitters are nice because at S5 they can hurt T6-T8 models, they can deal with AV10/11 flyers (not well-but its something) and then you are only losing one BS anyways. Its also enough shots with a bit better strength that you might get a decent amount of wounds on normal troops. IMO this is the 2nd best choice and is nice because it saves points.

Heavy venom cannons are my #1 choice and normally they are my last of the 3-on warriors for example. The S6 means you are wound most basic troops etc on 2+ and can have a decent chance vs T6-7 and still wound T8-9 so its more wounds and more chances to fail saves. Its also the best vs ground vehicles like rhino's, chimeras etc and becomes a threat to them. One game I got lucky (I admit it) but an enemy had 2 rhinos side by side and I had 3 of the cannons near them and managed to get 2 hull points off each of them and they both wrecked.
