Private Messaging
Private messaging (often abbreviated to PM) is any easy way to talk to a member or ask a question in privacy without posting to the forum. PM’ing a member is easy and can be done in a variety of ways.

Method 1:
From the main index page (the page you go to when you click the forum button anywhere on the website), from this page (and most pages) click the button next to the logout button in the top-left corner of the website that read “0 new messages”.

The new page this takes you to is your inbox where any new messages you receive will be presented. If you’d like to compose a new message for a member just click the “Compose message” button in the left-hand bar.

Image

On the new message screen you can write a message to whomever, and on the left-hand side in the “Username” box, type the username of the person (or people) you would like to write to and click the “Add [To]” button.

Method 2:
When browsing the forums and topics on Warpshadow, you may see a comment or post that you’d like to respond to privately. To do this you can click the small “PM” button located on the left-hand side underneath the signature of the member that you’d like to PM.

Image

This will bring you to the compose message screen with a link to the thread you were viewing as well as a quote of the message you wanted to respond to.

Method 3:
From the index page you can click the “Members” button in the top-right corner of the page.

Image

The next page will be a long list of members who have joined Warpshadow, you can browse this list by page manually or click the “Find a member” button in the top-right of the page.

Image

On the next page there will be several input fields. In the “Username” field type the username of the member you’d like to message and then click the “Search” button.

After you click search, the page will reload with a list of member you are searching for directly underneath the input fields, here you can click the PM button that will bring you to the compose message screen.

If you find that any of these functions are not working it is because you are a newly registered user, we do this to ensure that spam bots don’t invade the personal information of our users. To circumvent this make sure you get onto the forums and post!

Posting in a Topic

Posting messages in a topic is probably one of the easiest things to do on Warpshadow, and is the foundation of our website.

To post a message first find a topic you’d like to reply to. Warpshadow has 19 forums and 3 sub-forums, so take your time and look around. When you find a topic you’d like to reply to (such as the Humans Behind the Hive Fleets topic in The Lounge) click the “Post Reply” button located on the left side at either the top or the bottom of the page.

This will bring you to the compose message window, where you can write your reply. When you’re done just hit the submit button underneath the input field to add it to the discussion.

Adding Character to Your Posts

If you’d like to add a little character to your posts there are several features you can use while composing your message. These tools are mostly located above the input field.

Formatting
If you want to make part of your message italicized, bolded or underlined you can click one of the three buttons. This will pop up a set of tags; type what you’d like formatted in between the tags.

When posted it will look like this:
This will look like this
this
or this!

Bulleted Lists
If you’d like to make a bullet list in your post you can use the list and * tags.

When posted it will look like this:

    List:
  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • Item 3
  • Item 4

Coloured Text
Lastly you can change the colour of the text in your message. You do this by using the “Font Colour” box to the right of the message body input field. Choosing a colour from this box will bring up a colour tag in the message body.

When posted it will look like this:

Adding Quotes, Pictures and Links to Your Posts

Like formatting posts, adding quotes, links and photos is easy, and can be done from the compose message screen.

Quotes
Adding quotes is easy and can be done in two ways. The first way is by clicking the quote button which will bring up two quote tags in the message body. You just type between the tags and when posted it will be formatted as a blank quote.

When posted it will look like this:

Quote:
I love Warpshadow!

The second option is to directly quote a source or a member, this can be done by clicking the quote button underneath a post on the right while viewing a topic:

When you do this you get a quote tag that has the members name in it, allowing you to directly quote them.

Pictures

Posting pictures straight to the forum is a new feature and is pretty simple too!
First find your picture, this will have to be uploaded to a image hosting website first such as Photobucket, Majhost, or even our Warpshadow gallery (keep in mind you will need to meet registration standards for the Warpshadow gallery).

When you have found a picture you’d like to upload to the site right-click the photo which will bring up the following window:

Click the “Properties” prompting a new window to open:

When in this window highlight the “Address: URL” bar and copy and paste it into a set of image tags in the compose message screen.

When you submit your message, voila! An image will have appeared. Remember that if you do not select the image URL from the properties window it will most likely appear as a broken .jpg symbol.

URLs

Posting a URL (also known as a link) is useful as it can allow you to direct other members to an interesting website or even another topic on Warpshadow. There are two different ways to present a link.

You can type a URL in its basic format into the URL tags where when posted it will appear as the website link.

When posted it will look like this:

http://www.warpshadow.com

You can also title your links to give them a little flare or to ingrain them into your post. This is done with a little editing of the URL tags.

When posted it will look like this:

Editing a Post

Sometimes you might make a spelling mistake or feel as if you didn’t type enough in a reply to a topic. If that is the case you can easily edit your posts as you see fit. To do this go back to the post you made in the topic and click the small “Edit” button in the bottom-right of your post.

This will bring you back to the compose message page.
