hi warpshadow,

assuming i read it correctly, it is now possible to combine 2 or more different Hive Fleets to get different effect for your "detachments".

Tactically this might work out really good.
But concering fluff its just wrong.

I won´t do ist with my army.
So how are thinking about that??

hrld

I have the same feeling about that. Fighting wise, I see it as really usefull. But fluff-wise it's just... wrong.

That in mind, all other armies are allying with each other and I love playing a pure tyranid army. So I am a little split on the topic.

I agree that the tactic is strong. It would require a different painting pattern to field in official tourneys but if you're willing to do that it can be very potent. One of those detachments would most certainly be Kronos for the shooting power. Another cc oriented Hive Fleet would work for the other.

That being said, I agree that it's also antithesis to the fluff. I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Add one more to the singular hive fleet,. I keep trying to make a hybrid/combination list but even taking multiple detatchments just seems better to make it family. Though I wonder how it works in team games. If two are from the same mother fleet (IE both kraken) do we get to share buffs and synapse?

Unless you can stretch an "in the process of combining fleets" as was done in the Apocalypse Warzone: Valedor book, then there is really no fluffy way to justify having multiple Adaptations on the same turf.

To that end, keep in mind that the very possibility of two successful and thriving Hive Fleets blending together was enough to scare the Eldar into making some quick and shady deals with their Drukhari cousins and Harlequin troupes to keep it from happening. It was a big deal.

The main problem I see with mixed fleets, which isn't as much as a problem anymore, is Synapse is only affected properly within the respective hive fleets.

I won't.

Yes, as you say, you can do it, but also as you say, IT ISN'T FLUFFY.

I like my fluff.

FLUFFARMY. FLARMY.

And blarrrrggggglrraabbletongue.

*edit: Kronus, with it's nasty reputation for munching psykers, is perfect for Hive Fleet Mariposa.

It depends what your fluff is. Fluff-wise I was pre-Codex Gorgon where they were famed for their rapid mutation to adapt to the enemy [now they're toxic specialists thanks to absorbing Death Guard]. So fluff-wise taking two Hive Fleets would be two different parts or my army adapting to overcome the different forces it was facing.

That said there's an expectation to differentiate your Hive Fleets on the table so painting wise I would never want to do it. Also the moral issue is the sticking point, it's that picking and choosing that sits wrong with me.

wonder how GW is taking this factor. they did make that rulings with the intention of people making hybrid fleets, at least a portion of the tyranid community. yet every were i look/read hive fleets are mono. may be a splinter of one or another but people only use one adaption if any.

I must be looking in different places as I see so many mash-up lists it almost feels like mono-lists are an old fashioned view. Kronos/Kraken seems to be popular.

maybe its just me and the older generation then but i personally have a hard time using multiple hive fleets. though i am considering it for really competitive lists. trying to fit 3 hive fleets to dedicated detachments for their adaption perks, ie behemoth for trygon+stealer T1. kronos for back line and working on 3rd thinking tervigon termagant spam with leviathan.
