Thought I'd throw out a note on something I've been playing WRONG since 6e came out...

Ruin/wall: 4+ cover save
Go To Ground behind ruin/wall: 3+ cover save

Area terrain (including the rubbled ground inside a ruin): 5+ cover save
Go To Ground in Area Terrain: 3+ cover save

Rulebook pp91: going to ground in Area Terrain (normally only 5+ cover) grants +2 to the cover save instead of +1 for going to ground in the open or behind obstacles, fences, etc.

So I've been shorting myself of a 3+ cover save for all of those times that gaunts and genestealers have gone to ground in the rubble...and I've been giving myself an illegal 4+ cover save for standing in the rubble inside a ruined building...

yes, the area terrain giving a 5+ instead of something related to their make-up (such as the difference between being in an area terrain of a ruin and the area terrain of a forest) was a mistake I made and recently discovered as well.
However, like you, I didn't know about the +2 to cover saves for going to ground in area terrain.
