Yar, I love the Strain. I so want to get a bunch of them just to have a paint!

I like the pose. The plating and 'cabling' looks rather niddy. That robotic-looking glowy line with black circles in it should be easy to sculpt away if it is indeed sculpted and not just painted.
The chest isn't what we're used to with nids. But then, this could be an evolutionary strain. I'm really, really missing the third set of limbs though - but I also immediately noticed how easy it should be to add a set.
All in all, not a bad idea at all! now just to figure out what to use it for.

Those glowing line could indicate a organism based purly on the rapid delivery of fresh and hot bioplasma.
Even if it's not tooo niddy,it would make a great necromunda/ inquisitor boss.

Apart from that it's simply a great model to me :D

Oddly enough, I read the first book of Del Toro's "Strain" series some time back. Didn't think much of it, which surprised me. Haven't read any of the subsequent books.

Edit: Wait, what? Just realized that the Strain virus of Del Toro's is a completely different Strain virus.

Is that 40mm base? Maybe a little short, but I like the bulkiness for a potential tyrant guard.

Nice idea. When I saw that model* I thought I'd want one, so long as I could think of a use for it. But I love my bulldog tyrant guard and would hate to replace them. I'd like to see someone else do it though. :)

And if I didn't already have a Red Terror, I'd be snapping up this model from the same Sedition Wars range.

while that is a cool model, I'd actually rather have the original for the red terror. Maybe that's nostalgia, but the only 1 set of limbs, the presence of eyes, the human-like torso... it's just not very niddy to me.

The first guy could be used as a tyranid prime or as a broodlord too.
Maybe just add some small atropied limbs (maybe hands and fingers to show some kind of inteligence) to show that only one pair of super muscle is needed to rip apart what ever comes by.

The Thraex model (from original posting) is supposed to be 75mm high. I just *might* be getting one. That whole series is limited production, though. A conversion would be tricky... can't just slap a couple extra talons on the thing.

What about that paint scheme? Anyone have thoughts on how it was done?

I guess its a white basecoat and lots of thin layers on top of it.
Getting stronger and more intese on the spines and carapace bits.
