I am still quite new to 'Nids, but am now at the point in building my army where I can introduce myself by starting to post a few WIP and painting pics. I have wanted to create a Tyranid army since my son got Macragge about 3 years ago and I finally started a little while ago, just before the new codex was announced and inspired me to get busy.

First up is my first Alpha Warrior, minus the boneswords which I have yet to scratchbuild, and some Zoan-like vents, I hope. I cut and re-posed the legs to give him a taller stance, plus mounted him a little higher off the base to enhance his size. And I gave him a 60mm base to help him stand out from the crowd.

To help emphasize his size and stature further, I split the front and back halves of the upper body down the middle and then widened it in a slight V-shape, using GS to fill the gaps. I also used some GS to lengthen the upper body with an extra layer of chitin and two ribs at the bottom.

C&C welcome.

I have a few other critters in various stages of completion, as well. Plus another 12 Warriors, a Tyrant, 2 Zoanthropes and a Lictor. With 2 Venomthropes pre-ordered.

Thanks very much.

Looks nice. You can definitely tell he's not a regular warrior.

I was planning something similar, although maybe not quite to this extent. Either way, brilliant work, and I'm looking forward to seeing some of your other stuff!

I like what you did with the crest to differentiate him from the standard Warriors. My only question is what you intend to do with the gap I noticed between the crest piece and the normal head. Are you going to fill that with Green Stuff?

Thanks very much. I wasn't going to fiil the crest-head gap, it's just going to be a spine sticking up. I'm planning to have a couple of matching ones coming out of the upper back plates as well, if they look OK.

Unless you mean the small gap at the base of the crest, which will get filled.

I apologise for how grainy my photos turned out to be, the work doesn't look half as bad in reality.

Arise, oh thread of the dead!

I can't believe how much time has past since I started this, but I haven't actually been slacking off. I have worked quite steadily on various components my 'Nid army, with lots of minor conversions and painting, most recently 102 gaunts'n'gants during the month of May. More on that in a later post, but as you can imagine, I don't want to see a paint brush again for a little while at the moment.

Anyway, a couple of updates. First, my Alpha Warrior is largely complete, just need to finish some detailing. My photos aren't the best, but even so, I'm not liking his color scheme, so I think I will be re-visiting that. Each of my broods has an overall primary colour (e.g. green) and then each bug is a slight variation of that primary colour since my fluff posits that no two bugs are exactly alike because the Hive Fleet is constantly evolving according to whatever it is digesting at the moment. So, my Alpha could actually be any other colour.

Don't worry, the colours are all muted.

I also don't like his pose, which didn't turn out dynamic enough. Part of that is a result of the positioning of the boneswords. I am now planning on converting one to a lashwhip and I messed up the 'hands', where the boneswords joing the monstrous arms, so I will have to re-work those as well. All this will hopefully allow me to create something more dynamic and pleasing to the eye.

C&C welcome.

This is my brood of Warriors with Devourers, Boneswords and Lashwhips. Expensive, but my favourite unit so far, easily. They can shoot just fine until they are close enough for a little tender lovin' care, and then they just maul whatever they come across. At least, they have so far - they loooooove Smurfs

I scratchbuilt the BS' and LW's, they were quite easy and turned out really well. They were based on the GW concept art for these weapons that is currently in the Tyranid Archive in the Warpshadow Gallery. I have one more bug with a Barbed Strangler for the brood that doesn't have her BS & LW yet, but she's finished otherwise.

These boneswords look great! They remind me of the drawings of the guy who made the concept art for the 4th edition codex! And what's best about them is that they dont look anthropomorphic which is something I hate on Nids. Realy great!

This brood is the bee's knees, those blades are fantastic (might be my unhealthy fetish with french-curve templates and scimitars/sabres)! My favorites are the lashwhip with the "hand" at the end, and that serrated arm (looks like each digit is a blade).

Boneswords and lashwhips are easily the best I've seen. This includes some other brilliant work on here, such as Hydra. They're that awesome.

I need some plasticard and more greenstuff.

Very original and great stuff here. Amazing conversions and a stunning brood. You have just made a name for yourself.

SPLAT! *head explodes*

Thank you very much for the kind words. I doubt that my work is anything like as good as many others here, but it's nice to see that the effort I put into these is appreciated by others. It was a bit daunting posting on here, the bar does seem to be set quite high at times.

These were extremely easy to do. The arms are just spare Genestealer jobs with some GS to bulk them up to Warrior-esque staute.

I have some more Warrior broods done as well, bog-standard Scything Talons with Deathspitters and some leapers with Rending Claws. I got four of them partially complete in a trade just before the new 'dex arrived. They look great still, so I finished them as-is and added a couple more to make a decent-sized unit.

Question - should I be posting these completed bugs here, or in the "Behold the Swarm!" sub-forum? Or does it matter?

Thanks. C&C welcome.

As you've definately did some work converting them, they fit perfectly fine here. And it's an extra bonus to see your green-stuffed arms before they were painted!

What did you use for the white parts? Some other putty?

No, just plasticard - sheets for the blades and rod for the lash, bent using steam. I can check the diameter when I get home.

EDIT - Vonny, the pc sheet was 1.5 mm and the rod was 2.0 mm dia.
